Choose your Network site: Patients/Advocates | Corporate Consultation Welcome To A Refreshing Change In Medical Care The medical professionals of Medical Accountability Network witnessed the rapid decline of medical ethics in the last two decades. This was represented by a profound shift of responsibility for quality of patient care, falling to the managed care organization instead of the doctor. This period also saw massive failures of national leadership, as exemplified by a former government agency director resigning rather than defend the allegation that some 94% of the highest paid National Institutes of Health research scientists had gross conflicts of interests with the drug industry. It was no longer enough for each of us to doggedly try to function as lone practitioners in a sea of varying degrees of unethical behaviors and practices. We decided that the wrong thing to do was nothing. It was time to risk unpopularity by calling for frank discussions on morals in medicine. We identified the doctrine of informed consent as key to regulating the conduct of doctor/patient relations. The Patient/Advocate website provides useful information on medical ethics for the professional as well as lay public. After seeing how deeply this affected business, the Medical Accountability Network evolved to apply our model to the economics of employee healthcare, addressed in the Corporate Consultation website. | |
